Understanding Abuse

UNDERSTANDING ABUSE GROUP
This is a psycho-educational support group for women who have experienced any
type of domestic abuse from an intimate partner (verbal, emotional/ psychological,
financial, physical, sexual and/or spiritual abuse). We help women understand
that they are not to blame for the abuse and that they have choices in their lives.
PROGRAM GOALS:
To ensure women’s safety; help build safety plans.
To foster a sense of self worth, empowerment and control over their lives.
To help women understand power and control issues in their relationships.
GROUP FOCUS:
To examine protection and safety issues.
To identify the impact of abuse on the self and the family unit.
To build a positive self concept.
To identify and deal with feelings.
To gain strength from others and break isolation.
To share and problem solve together.
UPCOMING DATES: Wednesdays, June 12 to July 31, 2024 (8 weeks)
TIME: 10:00 am – 12:00 noon
COST: $30 per session (subsidies may be available on request)
LOCATION: Online (Note: A working microphone and camera are required.)
All applicants are required to have a screening interview and are also required to
have their own individual counsellor for additional support.
